  it seems that this has been a tactic that the jw's have used for many years.. i haven't contributed to this board in a wee while but upon my return a month or so ago, i was astounded to read about the article where the society described opposers as 'mentally diseased'.. it's a very basic strategy and one that works.. i myself experienced this with my wife during my more vocal periods of opposition to the society.

  for a good while i had a problem with drink.

  not a violent problem or anything, just that i drank more.

  just like in another thread a saw, the best way to deal with my jws is not debating or arguing, but instead posing questions for them to answer or not answer.

  i want to come up with specific questions relating to the 'global flood' that completely debunk it.

  Being in a cult - what good did it do?

  while most of us will agree that our time within the jw cult was rather terrible, however, i'd like to look at another aspect.

  did anything good come out of being in a cult and then waking up from it?.

  just finished watching this and see so many parallels between this and the jw's.

  awesome documentary and the director got it right with the facts, mood and tone of the movie.

  Wow! Just finished watching this and see SO MANY PARALLELS between this and the JW's. Awesome documentary and the director GOT it right with the facts, mood and tone of the movie. SOMEBODY needs to do a similar documentary on the JWs in much the same vein. Powerful stuff!!

  religion has run its course, it was used as a way to control growing populations and to give the human race a sense of direction almost like training wheels.

  religion has gone on a path of no return... that includes the only true religion of jw's!!!

  Woke up this morning to the realization that the future is now

  as the title of the thread says, i woke up this morning realizing more than ever that we should, each and every one of us, live for today and what we can accomplish today, rather than constantly looking toward the future.. i'm not implying we shouldn't make plans, plans are healthy and advisable, especially if you have healthy commitments.. but i realized the reason why nothing in my life ever seems to get done, is because i put things off, and look ahead 10 years down the line, then a few days later realize how much work needs to be put into that said task, then i don't do anything.

  and so the cycle seems to repeat itself.. what i think i'm trying to say is that worthwhile endeavors that have a reward at the end, but take many years to get there, need to be challenged one day at a time.

  i now understand that to get to where we want to be 10 years down the line, we need to focus on today and the hard work that needs to be out into a task one day at a time.

  GREAT THREAD!!  And this is one of the most dangerous aspects of this cult - that it STEALS AWAY your potential (future) with their damaging propaganda and psycho babble.  It was such a mind-fuck when I "woke up" and realized this.

  i was at bethel from 94-96 the person i am looking for came about 95-96 he left to get married 8/96.

  i have heard he dis associated and hope he is on jwn.

  if you read my bio you will know who i am (hint we went to the same hall.
